Gulfstream G650 close up takeoff on RWY 7 at KLUK.

October 30th, 2013 . by Clark Scott

gulfstream g650 Turn up your speakers!!!! Here is a brand new Gulfstream G650 taking off right in front of me at FULL POWER!!!! I was just there for a flight lesson and I always film before every flight lesson and I was lucky enough to catch this beauty going up. It was being test flown by Proctor and Gamble’s flight department, who is headquartered here at Lunken Airport. Proctor and Gamble is a worldwide corporation headquartered here in Cincinnati, so I see their jets going up quite frequently. ATC included. Callsign is Gulfstream 650PH. Filmed from the Main Terminal parking lot on Airport Road on September 24, 2013 with a Nikon Coolpix L820. Also, thank you to YouTube user ElectricGUnSmoke for allowing me to use his tripod.

    Thank you very much …
Thank you very much, Klaus! That is cool your father flies a Learjet. I am in flight school now and have talked to a Gulfstream pilot. He flies a G550. He said it is such an amazing aircraft to fly. It is mostly automated, but a very smooth ride.

    That’s true. They …
That’s true. They are currently few and far between. This one is a prototype Gulfstream is flying around to potential clients. They are trying to sell it to Proctor and Gamble in this video, who are a company that does business all over the world. They are ranked #27 on the Fortune 500 list. So a huge company who would definitely have good use for this plane.

    I wish I could fly …
I wish I could fly a G1000. I will start that in the next year or so, though. I am in college majoring in aviation. You will need a 4 year degree regardless of if you fly for airlines, corporate, etc. It’s kind of an unwritten rule (unless you fly for Delta). But if you majored in aviation, then you have more points. And the minimums depend on your school. If you attend a Part 61 school, then it’s 1,500. But Part 141 is 1,000. Most college programs are 141.

    Very nice! My dream …
Very nice! My dream is to fly for an airline. Possibly first for a regional airline. My older brother is in training. He has his commercial and his instrument rating. Now he is working on CFI, which is about the only way to build hours (for free) and make money. Since the airlines require a minimum of 1500 hours. The airport where I plan to train has a Cessna 172 G1000, which is very nice. You fly the G1000, dont you? I hope your training goes well for you! Brad

    My training is …
My training is going quite well. Glad you aspire to do so as well. I have a total of 13 hours so far and very close to solo. And absolutely get started soon. With all the baby-boomers retiring, that will cause the airlines to have a large shortage of pilots. The only downside to it is it is VERY expensive. The amount spent varies based on the student. I absorb information learned in training very quickly so it will bring down my bill. But budget about $7K-$9K for a private pilot license.

Trust me. It is WELL worth the wait to see one in person. This is now my favorite business aircraft of all time. It is simply a work of art. They are still pretty new so mot many around yet. But they will start popping up soon at a rapid pace, I’m sure. And that means more awesome footage for us spotters. :-)
